Chic options for your 4th of July party look

I own all of these pieces and will somehow throw a cute look together wearing one of the tops, fun sparkly jewelry and either cutoffs or a short flowy white skirt to complete the look!  Happy Friday!  And happy almost 4th of July!!

Trish McEvoy Thickening Mascara

Trish McEvoy Thickening Mascara

I’ve long been a fan of Trish’s curling mascara so I thought I’d go out on a limb and try the thickening formula which claims to produce a “formal false lash” effect.  The brush is like a little hourglass and it separates each lash and coats it with the blackest of black product leaving you with super voluminous inky fringe. The brush also helps to lift the lashes and they really do stay lifted and thus longer looking all day.  This mascara does not smudge, flake, smear, or migrate.  Another winner from Trish!!

The Daily Deflector by Kate Somerville

Kate Somerville SPF 20 Daily Deflector Anti –Aging Sunscreen/Moisturizer

This is an ideal moisturizer/SPF product for use during the hot summer months.  The formula locks the sunscreen into the “reservoir” of the skin ensuring your protection/coverage is optimal.  “Matrixyl 3000” immediately reduces the appearance of wrinkles especially around the eyes and the forehead.  A naturally derived Shitake Mushroom-based skin tightener helps to gradually strengthen the skin’s texture resulting in a firmer, healthier appearance.  This is like your daily moisturizer on steroids.  I actually feel like it makes my skin glow and I love how it acts almost as a primer – keeping my face shine free and smooth for several hours.  I use this product in combination with Kate’s Quench serum (see my 6/5/12 post).  While vacationing this summer this has been my go-to product to keep my face protected, breakout free, & looking lovely without any other products or makeup needed.  Kate’s products are priced very reasonably and she has a stellar reputation.  What’s not to love??

I want to be a supermodel...

Deborah Lippmann Supermodel

I wanted to love this color, I really did but I just don’t.  I love the actual color (the most perfect bright red/coral – like a popsicle!) and I love how the polish has a jelly-like texture and even dries that way.   Here’s my problem – it’s not quite opaque enough – i.e. you have bright red nails/toes but you can still see the nail line under the polish.  This really bothered me.  I think if you did 3 coats it would be perfect but, who has time to wait for that to dry???  Not this girl.

I’m considering finding a beige basecoat to wear underneath it but, that’s a lot of trouble and more $ I have to spend to make an already pricey polish look good.  Boo!

By Terry Concealer

By Terry Touche Expert Concealer

While this is not a major concealer, it is ideal for covering dark shadows and adding light (I wouldn’t really recommend it for blemishes or for acne-prone skin.  It is brightening minus the shimmer.  The light liquid formula will not settle into fine lines in the delicate eye area and it provides just enough coverage to conceal areas of redness or capillaries around the nose, etc. as well. I actually like it better than YSL’s Touche Eclat.  The formula has a nice satin like finish that stays creamy and doesn’t turn to powder thus drying out the skin.  Nothing worse than a crisp, parched, & powdery under eye. Ha!  Just one click will adequately cover under both eyes and leave you looking refreshed and awake.  I use “beige” in the summer and “nude” in the fall/winter.  I highly recommend.

Southern Swans

I stopped by Woo last Sat. to observe the coordinated chaos of several gorgeous ladies getting ready for Cheekwood’s Swan Ball & let me tell you, swans these ladies are!!

I spoke a bit with Woo’s very talented and skilled staff about the looks they were going for & their recommendations to clients pre-ball.  Crystal at Bobbi Brown swears by Dennis Gross Alpha Beta peals to prep, smooth the skin, & add a hint of glow.  A facial the week before also does the trick.  Shea at Armani advised she prefers a classic & elegant look to one fussy or over the top – she achieves this by using Armani’s Luminous silk foundation and primer.  Amy was Woo’s lash master – always applying individual and never a full strip for a natural look that boosts your own lashes.

Diana at Le Metier had the essential job of doing the Chairman of the Ball’s makeup – the lovely Mrs. Jacqueline Hutton – she kept the look simple, classic and oh so flawless by using Metier’s classic flawless foundation which contains hyaluronic acid, the Kiss + Makeup stain in “plum” for the ultimate stay-all-night lip, and barely there silver highlighted eyes to match Jacqueline’s gorgeous Reem Acra hyacinth dress.  Seriously Stunning (even sans the Reem Acra)!!

Here are a few shots from the process:

And, a few shots of the lovely tresses floating around Woo:

What a fun night!!!  Ladies, if you've got a special event, Woo is the place to be!!
Note, I have blogged about all the products mentioned in this post before and of course, they're all available at Woo!

& I'm out... (again)

Sorry for the lifeless posts lately, guys!!  I'm feeling quite under the weather these days... I have no doubt I'll be back to my usual self soon.

I'm hoping that our long weekend getaway starting Fri. morning to the Ritz in Naples, Fla. to celebrate a dear friend's wedding will revive me and I'll return rested and back to my usual energetic, beauty obsessed self.

I am so looking forward to my spa/salon treatments there while my hubby golfs.  How fab does the spa look??

Maybe I'll lounge by the spa's mineral pool with a fruity drink after my treatments...
Hope everyone has a great rest of the week and a great weekend!!!

XOXO
